Jesus had finished his last meal with his disciples. He dismissed Judas from them – to do his deed of betrayal. Then he said to them, “Now the Son of Man has been glorified, and God is glorified in him. If God has been glorified in him, God will also glorify him in himself and will glorify him at once.”Is that clear to you? This confusing statement is worth some study. What it says directly relates to God’s reasons for creation, for Jesus becoming human, and for you and me being commissioned as the Body of Christ – the church.

Reverend Ardyss spoke today about the calming, comforting presence of our Lord, experienced in stressful situations, and among non-believers, although they probably do not know that God is the source! These are opportunities for us to recognize the blessing of our being held by God when we need it most.

Our Scripture readings since Easter morning have been witnessed experiences of Jesus’ resurrection; Easter morning: Mary Magdalene at the tomb; 1 Easter: the disciples behind locked doors in the upper room; and today: Saul, Ananias, and Peter.When we read about those first witnesses of the resurrected Jesus, none of them recognized him at first. There was something different about him – no scripture account describes what that difference was. But Jesus was not just brought back to life.

The Sunday after Easter always re-visits the experience of the resurrected Jesus appearing to all of the disciples except Thomas. Thomas needed to personally see the marks of the nails before he could believe it was really Jesus the others had seen. And when Jesus returned one week later, Thomas was there, and saw, and said, “My Lord and my God!”.

Ruth protected Candace from a tripping fall on a broken sidewalk hidden in the sand. Her elbow took the full force, protecting Candace from the impact of the fall. She had a deep scar for years. What an example of instinct – motivated by love.

Extravagant Love shows itself all around us in life; and it transforms life when it happens.

David in Psalm 32: Happy are they whose transgressions are forgiven.Paul in Cor: “From now on… there is a new creation; everything old has passed away; see, everything has become new!” Christ offers us new life.Jesus: tells of the disrespectful, arrogant, wayward son who comes home, forgiven.This rich Gospel story is called the parable of the prodigal son; but it has a lot to say about the older son, and certainly about the father. The Pharisees and the teachers of the law were muttering about Jesus, because he welcomed sinners and ate with them.  They thought that he was doing a bad job of being a teacher. He was hanging out with the wrong crowd; he was socializing with bad people.

Moses saw the burning bush that was not consumed. God was sending him to Pharoah to set free the people of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Moses knew the power of Pharaoh, and the great danger he would be flirting with by taking on this assignment. “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh?” But God assured him that he would not be alone. God would give him what he needed.
